Benoit Huot wins gold

Benoit Huot is basking in a golden glow after taking home the gold medal in the 200 metre individual medley on the first day of competition at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. He also set a new world record in the process.

If you missed it, watch the video of his gold medal race.

Next week he will compete in the 100 metre backstroke and the 400 metre and 100 metre freestyle events, where he is also expected to contend for medals.

Huot shows little evidence of the club foot that first held him back as a child. After several childhood surgeries, and two decades in the swimming pool, the little boy who struggled to play baseball with the other neighbourhood kids has proven that learning the right sport skills at early age can make all the difference.
