Today’s Parent and the Healthy Family Challenge

Today’s Parent magazine is encouraging Canadian families to “get healthier together”.

The 30-day Healthy Family Challenge is a health, fitness, and nutrition program designed to get moms and dads and siblings to be more active, to eat healthier meals, and to do it all together, as a family.

If you register to participate in the challenge you’ll get weekly newsletters with tips and ideas as well as nutritious recipes and meal plans.

As the physical literacy advisor to Today’s Parent, Active for Life provided a bunch of activity suggestions that will get the entire family moving and will help you get your kids practicing the movement skills that will make them physically literate.

The Health Family Challenge also provides opportunities for you to chat with other moms and families and get advice directly from fitness and nutrition experts during live chats.

Karine Ewart, Today’s Parent editor in chief, and three families from across Canada (the Allens in Richmond, B.C., the Millers in Darmouth, N.S., and the Stanleys in Kingston, Ont.) are taking the challenge and blogging about their experiences.

Prizes are also being awarded, so by signing up to take the challenge yourselves you get a chance to win the grand prize of $10,000 towards a family adventure vacation. Secondary prizes include a trampoline, an Xbox 360 with Kinect bundle, Nike+ sport watches, and Samsung Galaxy Note II handhelds.
