It’s catchy, it’s weird, and you’ll definitely start dancing around the living room howling in your costume. It’s such a fun one for both kids and adults and should always be on your spooky-season playlist, whether you’re having a Halloween party or just hanging out with family.
People Are Strange – The Doors
Whether it reminds you of the ‘80s horror film The Lost Boys (the movie opens to a cover of this song by Echo and the Bunnymen) or it just makes you think of your favourite psychedelic rock band, this song is a good reminder that Halloween is the perfect time to express your strange self. Showcasing your weirdest dance moves around the house is not only acceptable, but encouraged.
Hungry Like the Wolf – Duran Duran
Nothing says ‘80s Halloween vibes quite like Duran Duran—and luckily for the purposes of this playlist, it was an era of big-energy dancing (not to mention big hair). Is this the best Halloween song that’s not actually a Halloween song? We think so. It certainly helps that it channels those particular All Hallows’ Eve vibes by combining a dark night with enthusiastic dancing (which is what we’re all here for).

There’s something magically witchy about this classic Harry Potter song and if you think it’s not the type of song you dance to, think again. My eight-year-old niece had no problem making up an entire dance routine in which she pretends to be stirring a cauldron, lighting a fire, and acting like the “something wicked” the song refers to. Channel that witchy energy (or the enthusiasm of your eight-year-old) and make up your own magical dance routine.
