Physical literacy and the school system
A new video from PHE Canada lays out precisely why physical literacy ought to have a place in the Canadian school system.
Mastering fundamental movement skills and understanding the significance of an active lifestyle, the video argues, are key not only to healthy students, but to successful adults later on in their lives.
“What we’re building is successful human beings,” explains elementary school teacher Jim Tayler in the video. “And physical literacy, along with other forms of literacy, is very important for balanced adults, people who are able to contribute successfully further down their lives.”
Although the video is directed largely toward school administrators and teachers, the first five minutes do a great job of showing parents what their kids have to gain from physical literacy.
