Play along with the NBA All Stars
Mark your calendars. The National Basketball Association (NBA) is bringing All Star Weekend to New Orleans from February 17-19 and we can’t wait to watch the events with our families. Regardless of whether your kids are new to basketball, or already fans of the sport, NBA All Star Weekend boasts a great lineup of events to inspire something in everyone.
Our favourite event is All Star Saturday Night, where the best of the best showcase their fundamental skills and physical literacy. Want to make your own skills competition at home? Try these activities and play along with the pros.
Skills Challenge
This event is a head-to-head obstacle course where players highlight their running, dribbling, throwing, and agility skills. Try the activities below and develop your family’s physical literacy.
Three-Point Contest
In this two-round, timed competition, players show off their long-range shooting capabilities. Help your child develop coordination of their arms and torso as well as the ability to “read” distances.
Slam Dunk Competition
The signature event of All-Star Saturday Night showcases players’ creativity, coordination, and jumping abilities. Each dunk demonstrates extraordinary physical literacy and we’ve included some of the skills on display to try!
Whether your child has hoop dreams or is just in awe of the pros (like we are!), the fundamental skills that make up basketball will benefit them on and off the court.
