Catch Team Canada in action at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship
It’s Boxing Day, and that means it’s time for Team Canada’s junior squad to take to the ice against the world’s best hockey players. Last year our team placed fourth, prompting coach Brent Sutter to call for a “new normal” in the sport.
It’s a good year for the team to play well, given that Hockey Canada is celebrating 100 years as an organization.
Curtis Lazar, from Vernon, B.C. and pictured above, will captain Team Canada in the tournament. Also on the team is Connor McDavid, from Newmarket, who many scouts consider to be a player with the skills of a Sidney Crosby.
In this year’s tournament, Canada’s first game is today, against Slovakia. But the big game in the preliminary round is on New Years’ Eve, when our boys play the United States in Montreal. With the U.S. hockey program adopting some of Canada’s training strategies, games between our two countries are bound to get more intense.
The medal games are being played in Toronto on January 5.
