Catch Team Canada in action at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship

This year’s World Junior Hockey Championship is being hosted by Buffalo, New York.

Returning as head coach is Dominique Ducharme, who is joined on the bench by assistants Tim Hunter and Kris Knoblauch.

There are seven players on the squad who played for Team Canada in last year’s tournament, where they finished second to the United States after a shootout loss in the gold medal game.

The experience of returning players — goaltender Carter Hart, defencemen Jake Bean, Kale Clague, and Dante Fabbro, and forwards Dillon Dubé, Michael McLeod, and Taylor Raddysh — may be essential on this year’s team that lacks high profile, big name players on the roster.

Ducharme said he assembled a team with speed and skill. “We went with what we saw on the ice,” he explained during a media briefing after the final cuts were made.

In the tournament, Canada has been placed in Group A with Denmark, Finland, Slovakia, and the U.S.

A hallmark at this year’s event is an outdoor game between Canada and the United States that will be played on December 29, 2017. But Canada’s first game is against Finland on Boxing Day (December 26) at 4 p.m. ET, 1 p.m. PT.

The medal games will be played on Friday, January 5.
