Introducing the Active for Life Role Models

At Active for Life we talk a lot about the importance of role models. We regularly highlight stories from parents, celebrities, and athletes that showcase how important it is for children to have active role models in their homes, in their lives, and in the media.

Because we believe so strongly in the power of role models, we’ve created a community of people who believe it’s important to spread the word about physical literacy. This outstanding group of women and men, parents and athletes, all have very different lives, experiences, and approaches. And they all have a story to tell.

In the coming months, you’ll get to know our role models (click on the Role Models tab) through guest posts, interviews, and on our social media channels. They’ll share their favourite tips and tricks that parents of young children can use to help develop their kids’ physical literacy and keep them having fun and being active.

We are also very proud to welcome Sherrie Guthrie, who was really our first community role model and an early advocate of physical literacy, to the AfL team.

With help from this amazing group we hope to inspire even more parents, families, coaches, and communities to help their children get active and develop fundamental movement skills. Raising your child to learn to love moving is a gift that lasts a lifetime and one they will pass down to their children and grandchildren.

Please join us in welcoming them all and thanking them for giving their time and passion to this important initiative. We’re always looking to add new role models so if you have an influential voice and want to be part of helping Canadians raise a generation of active kids, we’d love to hear from you.
