The Unplugged Club: How to manage screen time

Every parent and caregiver knows the challenges of screens—kids are often dependent on them, choose screen time over active play, and resist our attempts to manage their screen use. We all know there’s a problem, but there’s been a lack of simple, practical solutions that actually work. (And shaming parents and caregivers is not the answer!) This is why we’ve created The Unplugged Club.

The Unplugged Club: We’re in this together

Throughout 2026, we’ll share strategies and non-judgmental advice for families on our website and social media, and in our newsletter. We want to help your family unplug and enjoy more time together, face-to-face, playing and moving. It’s not about going cold turkey, but rather about being more mindful and focusing on small changes you can make every day or every week. Here are some of the suggestions you’ll find in the Unplugged Club:

  • A 10-minute unplugged “reset” after school
  • One screen-free meal a day
  • Weekend morning routines that start without screens
  • Create rules around screen time with your children
  • Build a toolbox of active play ideas to have at the ready (we’ll help you with this!)

We live in a world where screens are everywhere—at home, in our pockets, in our routines. They are helpful, entertaining, and sometimes necessary. But when screens take over the experiences that matter most—play, sleep, learning, connection—kids lose the experiences that help them grow into confident, curious, resilient humans. The Unplugged Club exists to help parents take back those moments.
